Auto Join Meetings Troubleshooting: Fixing Missed or Late Auto-Joins

Most of the time, Auto Join Meetings quietly opens your meeting tab a few minutes before it starts and you never think about it. When a tab doesn't open — or opens later than expected — it's almost always one of a handful of causes. Here's what to check.

1. Calendar Connection or Permission Issue

If a Google or Microsoft account gets disconnected, or calendar permission is revoked (this can happen after a password change, a security review, or simply reauthorizing apps), Auto Join Meetings loses visibility into that calendar entirely.

Fix: Open the extension and confirm your account is still shown as connected. If not, reconnect it — see our Google Calendar or Outlook connection guides.

2. The Event Doesn't Have a Detectable Meeting Link

Auto Join Meetings looks for a Google Meet, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams link in the event's location or description. If an event was created without one — for example a placeholder invite where the link gets added later, or a meeting link buried in a forwarded email instead of the event itself — there's nothing for the extension to detect yet.

Fix: Make sure the meeting link is actually present on the calendar event itself before the meeting starts.

3. You've Hit the Free Plan's Daily Limit

The Free plan includes up to 3 automatic joins per day. If you've already had three meetings auto-open that day, later meetings on the same day won't auto-open until the next day resets — this is expected behavior, not a bug.

Fix: If you regularly have more than 3 meetings a day, Basic ($5/month) removes the daily cap entirely.

4. The Browser Was Closed

Auto Join Meetings runs inside Chrome, so it can only open a tab if Chrome is running. If your laptop was asleep or Chrome was fully closed when a meeting was about to start, there was no browser for it to act in.

Fix: Keep Chrome running (even minimized) during your working hours for auto-joins to fire reliably.

5. "It Opened the Tab But Didn't Click Join" — That's Expected for Zoom and Teams

This one isn't a bug, but it's the most common source of confusion. Today:

Google Meet auto-clicks "Join now" and confirms entry — on Basic.
Zoom auto-click is an early prototype, gated to paid plans, and not yet reliable enough to be the default behavior.
Microsoft Teams opens the tab automatically but still needs a manual click to actually join.
